2020 has been a game changer for the UBI movement. Through his presidential campaign, Andrew Yang brought the concept into the mainstream. Today, a majority of Americans (55% according to a recent poll) view basic income to be a prudent response to the economic insecurity wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea now even has considerable political muscle behind it. Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's VP nominee, has introduced an emergency UBI Senate proposal that is co-sponsored by Bernie Sanders and Ed Markey. It's time to seize our moment and transform crisis into positive social change. Let's rally at this critical juncture in support of a more equitable and just world.
